Bringing together the best minds in the field to generate solutions.
The Delhi Chapter of ISAR (Indian Society for Atherosclerosis Research) was officially formed with the approval of the national body, ISAR, during its Executive and General Body Meeting held on 25th November 2014 at ISARCON. This milestone marked the launch of the first-ever state chapter of ISAR in the Delhi–NCR region.
Its formation was not only a matter of organizational expansion but also a significant step towards decentralizing scientific outreach, enabling more focused and localized efforts in research, education, and awareness about atherosclerosis. The establishment of the Delhi Chapter was driven by the vision of extending the national body’s mission into regional hubs of scientific excellence. Delhi–NCR, being one of the country’s leading centers for medical research, healthcare infrastructure, and academic institutions, was the ideal choice to set up this pioneering chapter.
This location offers access to a rich pool of researchers, clinicians, and scholars who can collectively contribute to the study, prevention, and management of atherosclerosis — a disease that remains a major global and national health challenge.
From its inception, the Delhi Chapter has been committed to acting as an active and vibrant arm of the national ISAR, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, fostering collaborations between disciplines, and bringing the latest scientific developments to the medical and research communities in the region.
At its core, the Delhi Chapter ISAR is driven by a mission to advance knowledge, promote awareness, and foster scientific collaboration in the fight against atherosclerosis and its related diseases. We strongly advocate for:
We believe that awareness is the first step toward change. By sharing the latest research findings, clinical trial results, and epidemiological data, we aim to inform medical practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and the public about the nature, risks, and prevention strategies related to atherosclerosis.
Atherosclerosis is not confined to a single field of medicine — it involves molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, cardiology, epidemiology, and more. We advocate for breaking down silos and creating opportunities where specialists from different disciplines can come together to share perspectives, data, and ideas.
We support the transition of discoveries from the laboratory to the clinic. Our aim is to ensure that scientific advancements directly benefit patients by leading to better diagnostic tools, preventive strategies, and therapeutic options.
While atherosclerosis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, public understanding of the disease remains limited. Through community outreach programs, public lectures, and awareness campaigns, we advocate for improved understanding among the general population about lifestyle changes and preventive healthcare.
We are committed to creating opportunities for early-career scientists and medical professionals through training workshops, mentorship programs, and networking events. We believe in nurturing the next generation of experts in cardiovascular health.
The Delhi Chapter ISAR carries out a range of activities and initiatives designed to fulfill its mission and objectives. These activities are carefully planned to cater to both scientific communities and the wider public, ensuring maximum impact.
One of our most important functions is to host annual conferences where leading national and international experts share their latest research and clinical insights. These meetings provide a platform for members to present their work, discuss emerging trends, and network with peers.
We organize specialized symposia and hands-on workshops on focused topics such as novel biomarkers in atherosclerosis, advances in lipid-lowering therapy, imaging technologies for plaque detection, or genetic research in cardiovascular disease. These events provide in-depth learning opportunities for participants.
The Delhi Chapter actively works to connect researchers with complementary expertise. By fostering collaborations, we help bring together clinical trial experts, laboratory scientists, and public health professionals to conduct impactful, large-scale studies.
We develop educational resources for both medical professionals and the public. These may include newsletters, research summaries, clinical guidelines, and layperson-friendly brochures about cardiovascular health and prevention.
Public awareness is a crucial pillar of our work. We conduct health camps, organize World Heart Day events, and participate in health exhibitions to spread the message about preventing atherosclerosis through early screening, healthy eating, exercise, and smoking cessation.
We offer CME programs to ensure that physicians and healthcare providers stay updated on the latest evidence-based practices in cardiovascular prevention and treatment.
Through our growing membership and collaborations with hospitals, research institutes, and universities, we are creating a knowledge-sharing network where members can exchange data, techniques, and case studies.
The Delhi Chapter runs student and young investigator sessions during conferences, offers travel grants, and provides mentorship opportunities to help young professionals build their careers in cardiovascular research.
Atherosclerosis remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, responsible for most heart attacks, strokes, and peripheral vascular diseases. In India, the disease burden is increasing due to lifestyle changes, rising obesity rates, and higher prevalence of diabetes and hypertension. The Delhi Chapter ISAR plays a critical role in addressing this challenge by:
Bringing together the best minds in the field to generate solutions.
Disseminating life-saving knowledge to both professionals and the public.
Encouraging innovative research to find new preventive and therapeutic approaches.
Creating a culture of collaboration rather than competition among scientists and clinicians.
The Delhi Chapter ISAR stands as a beacon for collaboration, education, and action in the field of atherosclerosis research and prevention. Whether you are a senior scientist, a practicing clinician, a postgraduate student, or simply someone passionate about cardiovascular health, there is a place for you in our community. By working together, we can create a healthier future free from the burden of atherosclerosis.
